BELPRE — Medical professionals say early detection saves lives and Rockland Ridge officials hope to make an impact with its inaugural Women’s Health Day event set for Tuesday.
In partnership with Memorial Health System, Amedysis Hospice and Ohio Health, a wheelchair accessible van will come to Rockland Ridge in Belpre to offer free mammograms.
“In lieu of Breast Health Awareness month, we really wanted to do something for the community that was going to be free and help others with early detection and keeping up with their health,” said Cherise Offenberger, admissions personnel with Rockland Ridge. “We figured people would be out and about anyway since it’s voting day. We thought people would be able to vote and get their health taken care of at the same time.”
Anyone over the age of 40 and under 39 with a doctor’s order can take advantage of this opportunity and Offenberger said results can be sent to a primary care physician.
Along with the test, a free lunch will be provided by Chef Jeff Adams who will prepare smoked pulled pork and all of the fixings.

Offenberger said serving lunch will make the day even more convenient for participants.
“It’s already hard enough for some of the elderly (locals) to afford food, let alone knowing this is going to be a big day, they’re going to out and about. It’s just nice to have a meal to take home with you and nice knowing you’ll have something to eat,” Offenberger said.
The event is from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and at 2:30 Dr. Chandler Myers, nurse practitioner at Strecker Cancer Center, will speak about women’s health and prevention.
“It’s so easy and it’s such a quick process. Your health is the one thing that you have and it is so important to be on top of it. I want to be able to provide something to them that’s going to get things caught early and help them live a full, long life,” Offenberger said.
Rockland Ridge is at 2511 Washington Boulevard in Belpre. No appointment is necessary. Bring an insurance card but it is not necessary to have one. For more information contact (740) 780-6005.
