Jan. 6 hearings: Live coverage and latest updates, Day 7

Several of President Donald Trump’s senior aides, including White House counsel Pat Cipollone, pushed him to concede the election well before the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, according to recorded testimony aired Tuesday during the seventh public hearing this summer by the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot.

The committee is also focusing on how Trump and his allies summoned far-right militant groups to Washington ahead of the deadly attack.

“The committee will explain how, as a part of his last-ditch effort to overturn the election and block the transfer of power, Donald Trump summoned a mob to Washington, D.C., and ultimately spurred that mob to wage a violent attack on our democracy,” Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the panel, said at the outset of the hearing.
