NC State Poole College of Management has recently named Jonathan Bohlmann as the interim head of the Department of Business Management. Bohlmann will be replacing Sebastian Heese, professor of supply chain management, who previously served in the role.
Bohlmann joined Poole College in 2008 and focuses his research on innovation and product development, marketing strategy, and team decision-making. On innovation, Bohlmann tries to do research from both the perspective of the customer and research about the firm and its innovation strategy. He has been published in top marketing journals including Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, and the Journal of Marketing Research.
“I believe Jonathan will be incredibly impactful,” said Frank Buckless, Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. Dean of Poole College. “He has worked across the business management department over the last couple of years to enhance curriculum outcomes and has found ways to be innovative in and outside the classroom. Students have certainly benefited from his advocacy and I know the college will too with him in this role.”

In his new role, Bohlmann hopes to continue the momentum of the new marketing analytics program and promote business analytics more broadly throughout the department and college. Most importantly, he would like to define specifically what Poole can do to create better experiences for our amazing students.
Prior to academia, Bohlmann worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry on advanced aircraft design. He managed several research and development projects related to innovations in materials and product design optimization.
“The department has a great group of people and programs, so hopefully I can also be a strong advocate for the terrific work they do,” said Bohlmann. “Sebastian [Heese] really kept things moving along well during the challenges of these past few years, and I’m glad we are able to bring back the area coordinator team of Julie, Mark and Don to help keep things on a positive trajectory.”
Bohlmann holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University as well as a Master of Business Administration from Texas Christian University. He also earned a PhD in marketing from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1996.
