The Filer Credit Union announced that it will be expanding operations at the end of this month when it will be adding a Parkdale branch. This new Filer Credit Union branch will be located on U.S. 31 across from West Shore Medical Center and right next to the Comfort Center.

New location
The Youth Employment and Training Program office has been moved to a new location. The office, which was previously located in the Manistee Intermediate School District building, will now be at the Washington School building on Ford Street.
Honors awarded
Jonathan Lemonnier, Switching Equipment technician for Michigan Bell Telephone Company, received his retiree identification from John Kelly, Switching Systems manager, at a retirement dinner held at the Elks Temple this past weekend. He was honored for his 41 years of service.

Cooking school
Plans for the presentation of the first major cooking school to be staged here in many years were revealed today with the announcement that the News Advocate will sponsor a two-day event Oct. 3-4 at the Manistee Armory. Final arrangements for the program were completed yesterday with Miss Susan Lowe, well-known food lecturer and demonstrator who was here on a preliminary visit.
Heavy rains
One of the wettest times in recent Manistee history was recorded from 4:30 p.m. yesterday until 9 a.m. today when 2.44 inches of rainfall soaked the area. In that 16.5 hour period, more rain fell than the entire month of August when only 2.20 inches of rainfall was recorded on the rain gauge located at the city sewage treatment plant.
