The beloved Gaia Italian Cafe shuttered last July after nine years on East Houston, one of scores of eateries that closed due to complications from coronavirus. However, its namesake chef didn’t stop. No, Gaia Bagnasacco is very much still active, sating fans’ appetites with her home cooking.
As previously reported, the search remains in play – with local assistance – for a new location to house Gaia Cafe. During this extended period of limbo, Bagnasacco has been cooking in a shared kitchen, preparing her “classic sauces” and other goods that fans can purchase through a new e-commerce website. Among the choices are a ragu, puttanesca, and intrigante; fresh made fusilli is also for sale.
But former customers might relish the prepared meal kits the most – staple menu items like Meat Lasagna, Pesto lasagna, Potatoes and meatball, and Spinach and Ricotta Gnocchi.
“We hope to give an option to our customers who kept asking us some of our food,” Bagnasacco tells us in an email.
For the moment, delivery is restricted to an eleven-mile radius of the Lower East Side.
