But she bought the building in March of 2020, right before the first stay at home order went into effect. “I hadn’t even received my liquor license yet,” she remembered.
It was big leap of faith, since she had never even heard of Bovey before stepping inside. “I’m from Wisconsin, but had been to this area camping and fishing when I was younger. I heard there was a place for sale. I ended up deciding to take a chance and look at it. I didn’t think I’d walk in the door and fall in love with it the way I did. I knwe it the second I walked in the door, this was the place.”
She took the time to revamp and get things ready, since COVID restrictions were in place.
Inside the Tavern is the Italian supper club called Prioriello’s Palm Garden. And there’s the arcade for kids.
A COVID relief grant and loan from Iron Range Resources helped her pay for new kitchen equipment and upgrades to the outdoor space.
And restrictions gave her the time to really plan things out. “It slowed me down enough to be slow and steady and win at the race of being an entrepreneur in an area I’ve never lived.”
Kat’s really grateful for the support of so many during this past year. She’s introducing everyone to her three boys, who help out at the business. “What it all boils down to, is that I’m proud to come to this community. They welcomed me here, and offered me great hope, as a woman in business.”
