Centennial Area Health Education Center (CAHEC) is under new leadership.
The organization supports the creation and sustainability of a qualified healthcare workforce in rural northeastern Colorado counties.
Melissa Jensen, long-time Greeley resident and former executive director of the Community Grief Center and High Plains Library District Foundation, has been selected as interim director of the Centennial Area Health Education Center (CAHEC). Current CAHEC director, Monica Mika, resigned her position for a new opportunity after seven very successful years of rebuilding and finding funding for health education programs for communities throughout Northeastern Colorado and working with students of all ages to fill the pipeline with future healthcare workers.
“Knowing little of the value of the national and state AHEC program when I started seven years ago, it surprises me now that more is not known about the wonderful works of this national and state program,” Mike said.
“I am pleased to announce Melissa Jensen, Interim Director of Centennial Area Health Education Center, will follow me. Her talents in marketing and outreach far exceed mine and I can’t wait to see where she is able to take CAHEC.”
“This position is exciting in that there are so many opportunities for us to grow with the changing landscape of rural healthcare and I look forward to being a part of some innovative national and state AHEC initiatives,” Jensen said.
CAHEC has served nine counties — Larimer, Weld, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Yuma, Elbert, Lincoln and Kit Carson — since 1977. CAHEC is affiliated with the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus, which partners with the CAHEC to administer the HRSA Model AHEC grant and other important projects. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary federal agency for improving health care to people who are geographically isolated or economically or medically vulnerable.
