ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — Young people have the power to change the world. Often, it takes a special adult who sees that young person’s potential, and knows how to help them achieve it.
That’s the story of the Reverend Andre Crockett. For years, he’s been making a difference in the lives of young men in the Rochester area through his Sports Mentorship Academy.
Coach Crockett started SMA in Rochester back in 2008. About fifty to sixty boys go through the program each year. Its mission is to bring the world of academics and athletics together with sports is a means to an end.
Coach Crockett says SMA has exceeded his expectations. His students are excelling, they’re graduation from high school and going onto college. They’re becoming mentors to the next round of young boys in Rochester.
Coach Crockett says education is the foundation his boys build on. And they learn that no matter the score in life, it’s possible to come out winners.
