There was no in-person “Radio Row” leading up to this year’s Super Bowl due to COVID-19 restrictions, but that did not stop a former Bengals great from making his voice heard this week.
Carlos Dunlap, now with the Seattle Seahawks, made an appearance on CBS Sports’ The Zach Gelb Show on Thursday. Dunlap and Gelb discussed Honey Uninhibited, Dunlap’s Miami-based restaurant, Dunlap’s half-season with the Seahawks, and of course, Dunlap’s departure from the Bengals.
On posting the portion of the team’s depth chart that had him at the bottom, Dunlap said he did that to give fans clarity regarding reports of him not being happy with the coaching staff. He said that “wasn’t the nail in the coffin” for him and his time with Cincinnati, but rather when he advertised his house as for sale after the team’s Week 7 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Dunlap, who just finished his 11th season in the league, said that “there’s a lot of love and respect still for Cincinnati” and that the Bengals’ front office still reaches out to him from time to time. Dunlap’s beef was specifically with the coaching staff and the front office did not want him to be traded, but in the end, they honored his request.
When asked whether or not head coach Zac Taylor and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo were the right people to build the Bengals back up, Dunlap could only comment on what he knew.
“I can’t answer that question, I don’t have that experience,” Dunlap said. “I just know that they’re committed to whatever their vision is, and it’s clear that I was not one of those pieces. And it seems like A.J. [Green] and Geno [Atkins]’s time is coming, too. I guess it’s the changing of the guard. They want new faces.”
